NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
CITY OF HOUGHTON-ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS

There will be a Public Hearing of the Zoning Board of Appeals on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 starting at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, City Center, 616 Shelden Avenue, Houghton, MI, 49931. The Zoning Board of Appeals will hold a Public Hearing concerning a request for a parking variance at 3300 West Sharon Avenue to build a Meijer store. Following the Public Hearing, the Zoning Board of Appeals will hold a meeting to act on the variance request.

The Public Hearing is an opportunity for public comment. The phone number for the City Offices is 906-482-1700 and the City offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. THE HOUGHTON CITY COUNCIL WILL HOLD A PUBLIC HEARING AT 5:30 p.m. WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2018, IN THE HOUGHTON CITY CENTER COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 616 SHELDEN AVENUE, ON THE FOLLOWING PROPOSED ORDINANCE:

PROPOSED ORDINANCE 2018-292
AN ORDINANCE, PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 98, ARTICLE 7, DIVISION 6,
OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, CITY OF HOUGHTON
TO RE-ZONE PROPERTY

THE CITY OF HOUGHTON ORDAINS:

Pursuant to Chapter 98, Article 7, Division 6, the Code of Ordinances, City of Houghton, Michigan and Public Act 110 of 2006, as amended, the following-described property is re-zoned from R-1 (single-family residential district) to B-3 (general business district), with condition:
That part of the southeast 1/4 of the northeast 1/4 of Section 3, Town 54 North, Range 34 West, City of Houghton, Houghton County, Michigan, described as follows:
Commencing at a Houghton County monument at the East 1/4 corner, Section 3, Town 54 North, Range 34 West, thence South 87 degrees 43 minutes 01 seconds West, 100.00 feet along the East & West 1/4 line of Section 3 to the west line of Sharon Avenue and the POINT OF BEGINNING, the said East & West 1/4 line is a right line between the East 1/4 corner as described above and a 1-1/4" steel bar at the southwest corner of the southeast 1/4 of the northeast 1/4 of section 3 per survey recorded in Liber 2, Page 183; thence, continuing along the East & West 1/4 line of Section 3, South 87 degrees 43 minutes 01 seconds West, 1141.94 feet to a 1-1/4" steel bar at the said southwest corner; thence North 04 degrees 13 minutes 37 seconds East, 201.30 feet; thence North 87 degrees 43 minutes 01 seconds East, 1087.23 feet to the West line of Sharon Avenue; thence, along the West line of Sharon Avenue, 203.37 feet along a curve to the right, said curve having a radius of 644.24 feet, a delta angle of 18 degrees 05 minutes 13 seconds, and a chord of 202.53 feet bearing South 11 degrees 20 minutes 33 seconds East to the POINT OF BEGINNING. Description contains 223999.26 square feet (5.1423 acres) and is subject to any easements of public record.
AND

A parcel of land in the Northeast Quarter (NE ¼) of the Southeast Quarter (SE ¼) of Section 3, T54N, R34W, City of Houghton, Houghton County, Michigan described as follows
Commencing at the East quarter corner of said Section 3; thence S 87° 44’ 09” West along the North line of said Northeast quarter of the Southeast quarter 100 feet to the point of beginning; thence continue South 87° 44’ 09” West along the North line of said Northeast quarter of the Southeast quarter 523.70 feet; thence South 01° 13’ 24” East 748 feet to the Northerly right of way line of Highway M-26; thence North 66° 53’ 23” East along said right of way 575.27 feet; thence North 02° 17’ 57” West, parallel to the East line of said Northeast quarter of the Southeast quarter 543.16 feet more or less to the point of beginning, containing 7.85 acres, more or less.
Condition:

1. The proposed rezoning will only go into effect upon the purchase of the property by Meijer, Inc., a Michigan corporation.

The Houghton City Zoning Map, as amended to reflect such re-zoning, is attached hereto as Exhibit A.

MEDC Grant to Assist with Acquisition of Copper Range Depot

The Houghton City Council will hold a Public Hearing on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. in the City Center Council Chambers, 616 Shelden Avenue, Houghton, Michigan, 49931. The purpose of the Public Hearing is to take public comment on a proposed MEDC Community Development Block Grant Application to provide financial assistance for a Grant to assist with the acquisition of the Copper Range Depot property at 301 West Lakeshore Drive.

Interested citizens will have the opportunity to comment in person at the public hearing or in writing to the above address prior to the public hearing. A copy of the proposed application is available for review at the City offices prior to the hearing. Contact the City Clerk’s office with questions 482-1700.

THE HOUGHTON CITY COUNCIL WILL HOLD A PUBLIC HEARING AT 5:30 p.m. WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 9, 2019, IN THE HOUGHTON CITY CENTER COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 616 SHELDEN AVENUE, ON THE FOLLOWING PROPOSED ORDINANCE:

Proposed Ordinance 2019-293. This proposed ordinance designates an enforcing agency to enforce the state construction code and designates regulated flood hazard areas under the provisions of the state construction code act.

The public hearing is a chance for the council to receive public comments on this proposed ordinance. The City Council and Planning Commission will conduct a joint public hearing on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. in the City Center Council Chambers, 616 Shelden Avenue, Houghton, MI 49931.

The purpose of the hearing is to provide the public an opportunity to review and comment on the draft Recreation Plan. Following the public hearing, the City Council and Planning Commission will consider approval and adoption of the Recreation Plan.
